The Reesie Reader & Bookie Literacy Club is a fun volunteer literacy initiative to promote early childhood reading with fun story times throughout Hudson County and the surrounding areas. Reesie Reader and Bookie are reading role models from the newly released children's books, Story Time Friends & The Case of the Withering Books. The characters visit various schools to meet children while advocating for the importance of literacy, spreading the love of reading wherever they go. Our passionate mission plants the seeds of reading by encouraging children that books are their friends. The club's outreach gives book donations to children who need them the most through one of its resources, First Book. In 2005, the program began a First Book Local Advisory Board in Hudson County as a way of giving back to First Book for helping the club in its mission. Together since its inception, the program has distributed more than 10,000 books to children in need.
